MBT Electronics offers repair and overhaul of RT-5000

The RT-5000 with C-5000 control is a single communication system covering six frequency bands normally requiring multiple transceivers. The C-5000 is the cockpit display and the RT-5000 is the remote mounted transceiver. The C-5000 can control multiple RT-5000 units or combinations of other Wulfsberg RT units. The display appearance of mode and frequency on the C-5000 is appropriate for the capabilities of each transceiver installed.

The RT-5000 is organized into six bands:

  1. 30-50 MHZ
  2. 50-80 MHZ
  3. 118-174 MHZ
  4. 220-400 MHZ
  5. 400-512 MHZ
  6. 800-960 MHZ

The type of modulation, bandwidth, power level, PL tone function, and other parameters can be selected for any frequency. Normally, preset channels (with all necessary parameters specified) are programmed into the C-5000 to make it easy for the operator. A manual mode is also available.

The transmit power is typically 10 watts. Low power can be programmed as necessary.

Guard receivers are installed in some versions of the RT-5000:

  1. 400-015525-0101 No guard receiver.
  2. 400-015525-0201 30-50 MHZ
  3. 400-015525-0301 138-174 MHZ
  4. 400-015525-0401 406-512 MHZ
  5. 400-015525-0501 30-960 MHZ (synthesized guard receiver)

The guard receivers are single-channel crystal controlled receivers except for the -0501. The synthesized guard receiver is a duplicate of the main receiver and can be programmed from the C-5000 to any frequency and mode.

The RT-5000 system also includes optional tuned antenna systems. The tuned antenna is controlled automatically by the C-5000 via serial data. An antenna tuner (data converter) receives the serial data and switches in the appropriate tuned circuits within the antenna. Since the action is all electronic, transmit and receive frequencies are rapidly switched as necessary. The efficiency of the physically short antenna is greatly increased in the low bands, 30-80 MHZ, by using a tuned system.

Tuned antennas:

  1. AT-50 121-016587-01
  2. AT-51 121-016796-01
  3. AT-5000 121-040045-01
  4. FC-550 153-017851-01

Antenna Tuner (data converter)

  1. FC-50 153-016586-01
  2. FC-5000 153-040047-01

Two antenna ports are installed on the RT-5000. The TNC connector serves the UHF bands >400 MHZ, and the N connector serves the VHF bands <399 MHZ. Usually different antennas are used for VHF and UHF or at least different connectors on the same antenna. If multiple antennas are installed, the C-5000 can be programmed to control external RF relays to select the correct antenna for each programmed channel. The C-5000 discrete (HI or LO) outputs can be programmed along with the other parameters for each preset channel.

MBT Electronics offers the following service:

  1. RT-5000 Evaluation with written teardown report.
  2. RT-5000 Repair / overhaul.
  3. FC-50, FC-5000 Evaluation, repair.
  4. Antenna evaluation.
  5. Assistance troubleshooting the RT-5000 system.

Important limitations:

  1. MBT Electronics cannot supply an FAA 8130-3 form for RT-5000 system components due to the lack of technical data and factory support for field repair. The RT-5000 components are treated like military avionics. A Certificate of Conformance with Test Data Record is issued.
  2. Numerous “software levels” exist depending on the age of the RT-5000 and when it was last updated by the factory. MBT Electronics performs repairs on the existing equipment without endeavoring to do any “updates” or software changes.

Important advantages for the customer:

  1. MBT Electronics accepts almost any unit for repair. Units deemed BER or “too old to repair” by the factory are routinely repaired.
  2. MBT Electronics does not require updating and unnecessary replacement of modules. If it worked before, it can work again!
  3. MBT Electronics can perform rapid bench testing and evaluation of components for troubleshooting purposes.
  4. MBT Electronics applies 35 years of avionics bench repair experience to each repair. Maximum reliability of the repaired radio is the most important goal.

Severe damage can be repaired.
